That's a cool design, is the factory skid plate fitted with robust hardware?

Is there a reason not to just weld it to the skid plate?

Just to make this clear for me: this system may be used for "hard" tops made of fiber to strengthen the whole thing and put more load on top of it?

Looks interesting but I can't imagine that this works too well. These supporting bars are mounted to the rim and not to the bottom of the truck bed, where you have your lugs.

AluCab hard tops for example are mounted to these as well, to gain some extra sturdiness.

Yes it is to enable fiber tops to carry weight, you are correct that it only mounts to the truck bed rim - but so does almost every "bedrack" on the market, I assume that they do in fact work as intended:
The last one here has a load rating of 600kg static - so I think that the rim of the bed is able to take some weight ..

    Hello community,
I got my Lapis today and installed it right away. 4 mm gap everywhere on the left. On the right, the middle bracket hits the sill before there is any tension on the nuts. Front and rear I have 1 mm clearance. Assembly canceled and an email was sent to Horn Tools.
Am curious. That can't just depend on VW.

Any news on your installation ? I am also considering to order these, but am a bit worried about these fitment issues ..
